On a quiet Saturday morning at Afor Market, Lokpaukwu, the usual bustle was replaced with something just as powerful—the sound of sweeping brooms, shared laughter, and people united by purpose. Members of the Oluebube A. Chukwu Foundation arrived steadily, some in groups, others alone, but all committed to one goal: serving their community through cleanliness.
What started months ago as a modest sanitation exercise has grown into something much bigger. The Foundation’s monthly cleanup initiative, held on the last Saturday of every month, has become a recognized and anticipated event in Lokpaukwu. With each passing month, participation increases, reflecting a growing sense of ownership and responsibility among residents of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Abia State.
Speaking during the exercise, the Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Oguama David, described the cleanup as a tradition rooted in consistency and commitment. According to him, the Foundation’s determination to sustain the initiative proves that meaningful change does not happen overnight—it is built through steady, intentional action.
Much of the inspiration behind this movement comes from the Foundation’s Principal, Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu, whose vision for community development continues to translate into tangible impact. Mr. Oguama commended his leadership and unwavering support, while also appreciating the volunteers who continue to give their time and strength to the cause.
Community leaders echoed similar sentiments. The President General of Amaubiri Lokpaukwu Autonomous Community, Engr. Nelson Okechukwu Chukwu, praised Dr. Oluebube’s compassion and highlighted the Foundation’s broader interventions, including scholarships, business grants, and empowerment programmes that are helping vulnerable individuals rise above poverty.
Additional commendations came from Hon. Uche Joel Obumneme, Councillor representing Lokpaukwu Ward, and HRH Eze Felix Emenike (Ikejimba III) of Uru Autonomous Community, who offered royal blessings and encouragement for the Foundation’s continued growth.
As the market stood cleaner and healthier by the end of the exercise, one truth stood out clearly: this was more than a cleanup. It was a movement—proof that when people unite around a shared vision, small actions can create lasting transformation.
