Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, usually caused by a viral infection. It can also be caused toxins, alcohol use, certain medications, or autoimmune diseases. There are five main types of viral hepatitis β A, B, C, D, and E.
Hepatitis A is spread through contaminated food or water.
Hepatitis B is transmitted via blood, sexual contact, or from mother to baby and it can become very chronic.
Hepatitis C is spread mainly through blood (e.g., sharing needles) and is often silent until it damages the liver
Hepatitis D occurs only with Hepatitis B infection and can make it very sey
Hepatitis E is similar to Hepatitis A, often spread through water and dangerous for pregnant women.
Some of the symptoms are fatigue or tiredness, jaundice, dark urine, nausea , loss of appetite, joint and stomach pain. Hepatitis can be treated with antiviral medications and there are vaccines available for hepatitis A and B
The spread of hepatitis can be prevented by vaccination, safe sex, using clean needles, screening blood products, and proper sanitation.
